Section 144 Imposed in Karachi to Ban Illegal Animal Markets Before Eid al-Adha

KARACHI – In a move to regulate livestock sales ahead of Eid ul Adha, Commissioner Karachi has imposed Section 144 across the city, banning illegal and roadside animal markets for a period of one month.
According to the commissioner’s office, the decision aims to ensure proper arrangements for cattle trade as hundreds of thousands of sacrificial animals are brought to the city in the weeks leading up to the festival. Only officially designated cattle markets will be allowed to operate, and selling animals at unauthorised locations will be prohibited.
The city’s seven district administrations have approved 14 locations for legal animal markets. Authorities have been instructed to take strict action against any violations of the ban.
The commissioner also directed market management teams to provide adequate parking, sanitation, and security facilities to ensure a smooth and hygienic experience for both traders and buyers.
